The campground, along the shore of Beartooth Lake, is composed of three loops - A, B and C. The sites are located in a stand of Lodgepole pine, none of which have a view of the lake. Beartooth Butte provides an impressive backdrop to the campground. Loop C, a four-site loop next to Beartooth Creek, is well suited for tent campers. Elevation is 9,000 ft.
Day trips include a drive up to Beartooth Pass, Clay Butte Fire Tower (for some great vistas) and the Yellowstone National Park. The drive along the Chief Joseph Scenic Byway is gorgeous with many vistas. Parts of it trace the flight or retreat of the Nez Perce Indians.
NOTE: Limited groceries and gas are available at the Top of the World store about 2 miles east of the campground.
Open July 1 (or earlier depending on snow pack) through September 30. Campsites are first come, first served. Rate is $15 per day and maximum stay is 16 days. This is grizzly bear country; practice safe food storage techniques.
